Once your system is installed, follow these steps to complete an application and interconnection agreement.

Please be aware that it can take up to 30 calendar days of receipt of a completed application to receive approval for interconnection, subject to an approved inspection performed by Tampa Electric, including installation of acceptable disconnect switch.

Getting started is easy – just follow these steps:

Step 1

Complete and submit the appropriate application to Tampa Electric.

If adding “additional” batteries or panels to an existing system, please submit one of the following.

Step 2

Download and complete the interconnection agreement that matches the rating/size of your renewable generating system. Please note: This rating is measured in alternating current (AC). Additional documentation may be required based on the size of your system.

*Must choose one of the following tiered options.

*Systems rated 10kW or less (AC)
  • Tier 1 interconnection agreement for systems 10kW or less. Download and complete agreement (Section 8, sheet No. 8.1000)
  • No application fee.
  • Provide a copy the manufacturer's installation, operation and maintenance instructions for the system's inverter. A Web link is also acceptable.
  • A manual disconnect switch of visible load break type must be installed adjacent to meter, prior to inspection (Maximum reimbursement for single-phase is $320. Three-phase max reimbursement is $395). A photo of the disconnect switch is required to be submitted with the application showing the required placard with ON-SITE GENERATION UTILITY DISCONNECT SWITCH engraved or stamped as required by our electrical standards. See sample photo of a disconnect switch with an approved placard.
  • Proof of inspection and approval by local code authority.

*Systems rated greater than 10 kW to 100kW (AC)
  • Tier 2 interconnection agreement for systems greater than 10kW to 100kW. Download and complete agreement (Section 8, sheet No. 8.1035)
  • Application fee: $250.
  • Proof of insurance not less than $1,000,000 general liability (see condition #9).
  • Provide a copy the manufacturer's installation, operation and maintenance instructions for the system's inverter. A Web link is also acceptable.
  • A manual disconnect switch of visible load break type must be installed adjacent to meter prior to inspection.

*Systems rated 100kW to 2MW (AC)
  • Tier 3 interconnection agreement for systems greater than 100kW to 2MW. Download and complete agreement (Section 8, sheet No. 8.1070)
  • Application fee: $500.
  • Proof of insurance not less than $2,000,000 general liability (see condition #9).
  • Provide a copy the manufacturer's installation, operation and maintenance instructions for the system's inverter. A Web link is also acceptable.
  • A manual disconnect switch of visible load break type must be installed adjacent to meter, prior to inspection.
  • Proof of inspection and approval by local code authority. A photo of the disconnect switch is required to be submitted with the application showing the required placard with ON-SITE GENERATION UTILITY DISCONNECT SWITCH engraved or stamped as required by our electrical standards. See sample photo of a disconnect switch with an approved placard.
  • May require interconnection study (see condition #11).

*Battery Interconnection Agreement greater than 1kW
  • Download and completed the battery interconnection agreement for interconnected customer-owned battery subsystems 1 kW or more (Section 8, sheet No. 8.1150)
  • For battery installations at or below 15 kW AC maximum capacity, proof of insurance not less than $100,000 general liability insurance for personal injury and property damage. (see condition #6).
  • For battery installation above 15 kW AC maximum capacity, proof of insurance not less than $1,000,000 general liability insurance for personal injury and property damage. (see condition #6).
A photo of the disconnect switch is required to be submitted with the application showing the required placard with ON-SITE GENERATION UTILITY DISCONNECT SWITCH engraved or stamped as required by our electrical standards (scroll to section 7.52). Step 3

Your interconnection payment can be made online or by check or money order to:

Attention: EMS Team – P5
Tampa Electric
P.O. Box 172479
Tampa, FL 33672

Upon receipt of required documentation, an inspection of your system and meter set will be scheduled by a Tampa Electric representative to ensure proper interconnection.

To ensure the safe and timely interconnection of your new solar system, we request 24-hour access to your home's electric meter. Please secure any pets, unlock gates, or provide a gate code to Tampa Electric at NetMeters@tecoenergy.com. If we are unable to complete the inspection for any reason, you will incur a $25 trip charge for each time we have to reinspect.

If the installation passes inspection, Tampa Electric will replace your traditional meter with a bi-directional net meter so you can begin operating your system. Please note that many contractors require "permission to operate" notification prior to operation of your system. Tampa Electric will email your signed Interconnection Agreement to you and your contractor indicating your system is ready for operation.
